What is Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy?
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is a type of medical treatment that is used to treat a variety of illnesses. This treatment requires the patient to breath 100% oxygen at an increased pressure for a prescribed amount of time.
In order to achieve this increased pressure, the patient must receive the treatment while in a pressurized environment (a hyperbaric oxygen chamber). This type of treatment is often used in conjunction with additional therapies to facilitate healing of various underlying medical conditions.
At Long Beach Memorial Medical Center, we provide hyperbaric oxygen treatments to our patients in monoplace (one person) hyperbaric chambers. These individual chambers allow for a comfortable and private hyperbaric oxygen treatment. Each chamber is constructed using clear plastic material, allowing patients the opportunity to visit with family, friends or watch TV and videos during each treatment.
